Summary
Georges Bensoussan: The European Passion for Genocide: A History of Genocidal Ideas and Deeds
Bensoussan's work The European Passion for Genocide – A History of Genocidal Ideas and Deeds talks about Europe as a huge killing machine that serves genocidal goals. Such a Europe, according to the author, was built for almost two thousand years and was directed against a wide range of Others, among whom the Jews predominate due to their repulsion, as well as the relative number of victims. The author analyzes numerous events from European history and searches for answers as to why many things from history spill over into the present; he reveals the genocidal structure even in the present, where it is latent. The structure is always the same, although this need for the Other is satisfied by others, not only Jews. The book is extremely important because, as Bensoussan believes, people are fueled by the beliefs of previous generations, so it is important to do a kind of intellectual archeology of the horrors of the previous century, not in order to ascribe to ourselves the function of judge or prosecutor, but to perform the task that should be the task of every normal person.
