Pisma fra Luke Ibrišimovića zagrebačkim biskupima (1672. - 1697.)

Barbarić Josip | Holzleitner Miljenko

Summary

Josip Barbarić, Miljenko Holzleitner: Letters of Fr. Luka Ibrišimović to the bishops of Zagreb (1672 - 1697)

Fr. Luka Ibrišimović was born in Požega around 1620, he attended the novitiate in Hungary and took vows, so that after he was ordained a priest in 1649, he would study theology in Ferrara, Rome and Naples. From 1682, he held the post of chaplain in Požega, during the Turkish reign. He stood out as a priest, but also as a patriot: he led the popular uprising from 1684 to 1691, worked for the political and ecclesiastical unity of the Croats, and became famous in the defense of Požega against the Turks in 1687. He regularly reports to the Zagreb bishops about the situation in Slavonia. Br. Miljenko Holzleitner recorded, then photocopied and transcribed Fr. Luka's letters in the Archbishop's Archives in Zagreb and the Archives of the Franciscan Monastery in Požega, while Dr. Josip Barbarić conducted additional research and added letters from other correspondents related to Luka Ibrišimović to this book. Fra Luka's letters are important for understanding and studying the situation in Slavonia in the second half of the 17th century. The introductory study was written by Dr. Franjo Emanuel Hoško.
