In Croatia, almost one hundred and fifty years should have passed since the publication of Šulek's Yugoslav directory of plants and herbalism in order to finally approach the systematic collection of native, folk names for plants. The botanist Ivan Šugar undertook such a task, preparing the Croatian plant nomenclature, which was created on the basis of the author's many years of field work collecting vernacular names for plants throughout Croatia and the published nomenclature material. The author's goal is to compile a Croatian plant nomenclature with a proposal for normative names after a critical assessment of the nomenclature material covered in this dictionary. In order for this dictionary to partially meet this goal, an index with Latin and Croatian names of plant genera and species is printed at the end of the dictionary.
