The first part of the book includes the writing "The Central Conception of Buddhism and the Meaning of the Word Dharma" from 1923. The second part entitled "Buddhist Theory of the Soul" was originally published in 1920, and is translated in this book as an appendix to the first part. It is about the last chapter of Vasbandhu's work "Abhidharmakosha" (5th century AD), in which the Buddhist refutation of the existence of the soul is considered.
