Summary
Ivo Andrić: Travnička Chronicle
Bosnian silence is powerful; it is the main ingredient of that insidious "oriental poison" that poisons people from the West. Only those Westerners who were brought to Travnik by chance know how much of the East they carry with them and how much Travnik changed their lives. Only they know what Bosnia gave them and what it took away. Silence is the last word, the final chord of the novel. Victorious silence.
