Karen Armstrong: In Support of God: What Religion Really Means
Does God have any future in this age of aggressive scientific rationalism? Karen Armstrong claims that we can creatively use insights from the past to build a faith that can provide answers in today's divided world.
Recognized theologian Karen Armstrong claims that throughout history atheism has rarely denied holiness itself, but has almost always rejected a certain idea of God. Western Christians in modern times have developed a theology that is radically different from the theology of previous periods. Tracing the history of religion from the Paleolithic to the present, Armstrong shows that until recently, science and religion were not in conflict. But science has started a different conversation. The meaning of the words "faith" and "mystery" has completely changed, so today both atheists and theists think and speak about God - and about reason itself - in a way that would have astonished our ancestors.
Why has the modern God become incredible? Ima li Bog ikakve budućnosti u ovome dobu agresivna znanstvenog racionalizma? Karen Armstrong believes that if we creatively draw from the insights of the past, we can build a faith that directly addresses the needs of our turbulent and dangerously polarized world.
