Summary
Borislav Pekić: How to appease a vampire
This is another work in a series of literary works devoted to the topic of violence, police oppressive systems, certainly one of the biggest problems not only of the present, but of the entire history of human society. Pekić puts the infernal machine of the Gestapo under his merciless scrutiny and, in an action related to our soil and the time of the revolution, analyzes the development of an intellectual who, caught up in this inexorable machinery, through a process the writer calls "transmission compromises", inevitably becomes a criminal. There are few literary works that, like this one, convincingly suggest to this extent the need for constant vigilance of man's social and moral consciousness, for constant determination and constant conquest of humanity. Pekić is a writer who knows how to talk about tragic topics with humor and who knows how to interweave elements of fantasy into a story about madness, and at the same time keeps the reader in the greatest interest and suspense, turning the reading into a dialogue that does not end with the last page of the book and in which all the answers are in favor of humanity.
