Summary
Tjaša Učakar: EU migration policy: New articulations of exclusion in the 21st century
The author starts from the point of view that the issue of migration policies that should manage the new reality of the 21st century is a key social issue and that the border will be the place where the future society will be created. By comparing the documents and practice of the European migration policy, he reveals the discrepancy between the official EU documents, politically correct and focused on humanitarian values, and the reality of increasingly repressive measures, bans and exclusions. But the sources of this discrepancy are found in the documents and policies themselves, because most discourses and measures in the field of migration policy are based on security frameworks and mechanisms of securitization and criminalization of migrants and selective admission to the labor market. The illegalization, criminalization and dehumanization of immigrants is the result of the discourse on the border portraying them as those who are outside and who, with their arrival in the limited space, represent a danger to the established order within the borders.
