Liv Strömquist: The Fruit of Knowledge

Liv Strömquist's new comic album The Fruit of Knowledge deals with what is usually called the "female genital organ". But what is it? And why does humanity have such a deeply ambivalent relationship with that part of the body? In a colorful mosaic featuring ancient Greeks, women from the Stone Age, Sigmund Freud, entrepreneurs who got rich selling cornflakes, Sleeping Beauty, Hindu goddesses, Dogge Doggelito, biology textbooks and Stig Larsson, Liv Strömquist tries to put together a picture of that organ that Gustave Courbet called "the origin of the world". The fruit of knowledge is a historical analysis of the construction of the image of the sexual organ that will not only teach you a lot, but also entertain you.

Liv Strömquist gained great popularity in 2005 with her first comic album Hundra procent fet (One hundred percent fat), which was followed by the albums Drif (Instinct) (2006), Einsteins fu (Einstein's wife)(2008), Prins Charles väää (The Feeling of Prince Charles) (2010) and Ja till Liv! (We vote for Liv!) (2011). The comics have been awarded multiple times, and several of them have been staged in theaters in Stockholm and Malmö. He publishes comics in the daily newspapers Afonbladet, Galagu, and also has his own popular podcast.
