Summary

Marko Nedić: Critical Descriptions: Essays on Serbian Prose

Marko Nedić's critical descriptions in terms of the critical-methodological procedure and selected topics build on his previous books dedicated to recent Serbian prose and its most significant creators, and to a certain extent supplement them with new critical insights. They simultaneously indicate some of the most noticeable points of development, evolutionary changes, visible continuities and intertextual and poetic connections in the works of our contemporary and earlier prose writers.
The division of the book into three units first of all testifies to the time of creation of the literary works to which they refer, but also to the developmental stages of recent Serbian literature and its prose, from folk tales as a signpost to the extremely significant poetic direction of our prose creativity. and stylistic standard, through interwar modernists (D. Vasić, I. Andrić, M. Crnjanski, M. Kašanin) and the high artistic results of their prose works, to individual authors of the second half of the 20th century (B. Petrović, D. Popović, M. Bulatović, G. Olujić, M. Pavić) and their diverse narrative poetics. Therefore, the constants and changes of prose procedures in the analyzed works are seen in this book not only as stylistic and morphological, but also as important aesthetic and meaningful features of prose genres of earlier and contemporary Serbian literature.
