Summary
Iva Šarić: Invoking reality
Jean Rouaud's poetics in the novel Les Champs d'honneur
The focus of this theoretical discussion of the young scientist Iva Šarić (Zagreb, 1972) is the poetic model of Jean Rouaud's novelistic oeuvre. The novel Les Champs d'honneur served the author as a basis: first of all, its syntactic, then semantic, and finally functional level was considered. In all poetic categories, this novel by Rouaud manifests itself as a novel in constant movement and oscillation of its contradictions, a novel that is impossible to define unambiguously with regard to commonly accepted literary determinants. Observing the novel in the context of the poetics of postmodernism, it becomes clear that Rouaud's layered problematization of the interaction of reality and literary reality, that is, the ontological split marked by paradoxism, is manifested in this ambiguity and borderline. However, the author will replace the loss of metaphysical determinants in modern times with an ethical principle, thus giving ethics the character of a new meaning in a problematic world. The original text of the manuscript was a successfully defended master's thesis with mentor Ingrid Šafranek.
