Summary
Vilogorac-Brčić Inga: The Famous Wife of Claudius Quintus
In 204 BC, the Sibylline Books prophesied to the Romans that they would defeat Hannibal if the cult of the Phrygian Cybele was transferred from Pergamum to Rome. In this connection, a number of Greek and Roman writers tell the story of the miracle of Claudius Quintus, who is responsible for the happy arrival of the ship with the Santa statue to the city. The book analyzes all written sources that provide details about this tradition, as well as a number of pictorial representations of Claudia's miracle, the earliest of which are from the Roman era, and the latest from the 19th century. Attached are twenty Greek and Latin texts with the author's translations.
