Summary
Valentin Mandelstamm: Hollywood
A novel from the film world by the French writer Valentin Mandelstamm. The title itself ignites the imagination of every young European woman, making her nostalgic for the mysterious wonders of that modern story. Around the fate of the beautiful and unfortunate Russian aristocrat Lydia - the new "Hollywood star" - and the tragic vicissitudes of the genius film director Joe Stanley, the author has strung together vivid and dazzling images of the industrial city, presented a whole series of sharp and above all interesting portraits of the most famous film stars (from Mary Pickford to Charlie Chaplin), showing them in their work and private life. The works of filming in the studios (with just a masterfully presented director's analysis of one scene) and in nature (in the Californian deserts) were presented above all plastically and faithfully in all those enormous proportions of spent labor and money, which are known only in America. It is rare for a novel to be as current as this one.
