Summary
Davor Mateković, Oscar Asensio: MOR(p)H
The MORpH project is a hotel facility for officers/students of the Croatian Military Academy "Dr. Franjo Tuđman" in Zagreb, Croatia. Located on the city's main street, Ilica, this hotel skyscraper, officially called "Vukovar", has become one of the recognizable landmarks in Zagreb's cityscape. In the midst of Zagreb's historicist "Kasernen-Architektur", this project uses the method of contrast. Since contextualization through the environment is not possible, it found its formal legitimation in its own purpose, covering itself with a military pixelated pattern. The confusion that would have been caused by the proper rhythm and shape of the opening is skillfully avoided, so that the entire membrane looks coherent and communicates in a consistent way.
