Summary
Ivan Kukuljević Sakcinski: Slavjanke
First edition, very rare!
"Slavjanke", Kukuljević's most successful collection of poems, with the accompanying text "Historic primětbe" in which he comments on persons and toponyms, are modeled after J. Kollár's work "Slavy daughters". In "Slavjanka", Kukuljević in a series of short poems of four stanzas apostrophizes Slavic regions and places, to which the greatness of the Slavic past is connected (Sveta Gora, Belgrade, the Adriatic Sea, ...). In the second part, he addresses certain European nations, with whom the Slavs and Croats came into contact (Italians, Germans, Greeks), and all of Kukuljević's lyrical considerations end with indignation at the attitude of these nations towards the Croats and Slavs. "The Slavs" was accompanied by Kukuljević with extensive historical remarks, referring to the sources on the basis of which he wrote them.
Xa is the pseudonym of Ivan Kukuljević Sakcinski.
