Stjepan Gračan was born in Prugovec in 1941. He first chooses to study art history and psychology, after which he decides on the Academy. He finished sculpture at the Academy in Zagreb, and graduated with A. Augustinčić. He is one of the founders of the Biafra group. The characteristics of his work are the emphasis on grotesque forms, expressive and intensified distortion of the human figure in order to bring the idea and content more dramatically. The most common material used is polyester in combination with other materials, usually painted. He also created many public sculptures and monuments, such as the monument to V. Nazor in Zagreb. He teaches at the Academy in Zagreb.
