Milan Prelog: Texts about Dubrovnik

Summary

Milan Prelog's Collected Studies, Essays and Cultural Historical Records are a significant collection of works on the topic of medieval Dubrovnik which, among other things, served as an incentive for its acceptance into the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Register of Protected Historic Cities in 1979. The medieval urbanization of the eastern Adriatic coast, the peculiarities of the creation of urban structures as and the meaning of historical urbanism are elements of his thinking based on the equal treatment of historical, archival and material remains that precede conclusions about the development of the city. Milan Prelog's unique method of action stems from the need to live and understand the peculiarities of space and time, that is, the coexistence of many factors that influenced the development of the city in those parts that the author considers in his articles. Starting from the city as a work of art, Prelog once established the criteria for categorizing the monumental value not of individual works, but of the urban environment as a whole. The layered judgments are the result of the author's problematic approach and analytical-synthesis procedure in which functional, aesthetic and ethical levels equally contribute to the understanding of creativity.
