Summary
Joseph E. Stiglitz, Andrew Charlton: Fair Trade for All
A Nobel laureate and former World Bank employee, Stiglitz is a leading critic of the current trade system, which works to the benefit of the rich and to the detriment of the poor. Although trade liberalization has an effect on the development and well-being of countries, if it is overdone it has the opposite effect - it is harmful. The authors present their vision of a world trade system that takes into account the interests of poorer countries and call for the continuation of meetings (Doha, Hong Kong...) that will be based on equality and social justice, and lead to easier integration of developing countries into the world trade system. Evidence of the influence of provisions from various trade agreements (past and future) was also presented, which shows that the path to a solution will be arduous and long-lasting.
