Summary
Michel de Montaigne: On Solitude and Other Essays
Montaigne is considered the father of the essay (Essays was first published in 1580), a literary form that combines a scholarly approach with the author's personal view of the subject. He often illustrates his thoughts about the books he has read, others and himself, with anecdotes from the ancient world and examples from his own experience, and the endless series of topics he deals with is typical of humanistic studies. In this selection, priority is given to Montaigne's essays, in which he, staring at himself, thinks about loneliness, the fleeting experience of life and preparation for death - important questions for each of us.
