Summary
Krunoslav Rac: Velebit: the experience of the mountain
The book contains numerous color photographs.
Krunoslav Rac, previously known as an excellent nature photographer and relaxed reporter from worlds without asphalt, approaches the mythical mountain in Croatia in a special way; for him, it is just as holy and powerful at its foot immersed in the sea near St. George as it is at Zavižan, from which the vistas of the Adriatic burst. Krunoslav Rac maintains this comprehensive approach, in which every path, valley and peak, grass and creature are only parts of the great living organism of the mountain, in every frame and with every step, which often grabs outside the marked hiking trails. From his portfolio, bears, wolves, and vipers jump out in front of the viewer in a state of blessed untouchedness, but the author is also aware that it has long since ceased to be a wild world.
Rac knows that a mountain without a man is not complete, the only question is whether the one who climbs knows it, or is driven to the top only by the desire to stick a flag with his name on it. In this sense, this is a book that needs a heart - as big as a mountain - much more than muscles, lungs resistant to fresh, cold air, good boots and ice axes.
