Summary
Charles Dickens: Dickens's London
London through the eyes of Charles Dickens – a unique literary interpretation of the spirit of eternal London. The first and greatest urban novelist, Dickens grasps the essence of a central modern social phenomenon – the excitement and problems of the city. On his journey through Victorian London, we meet the people on whose model he built his literary heroes, as well as the landscapes in which the novel takes place. Walking through the urban landscapes of London, he met the working class that would fill the background of his cartoons and he never let go of his fascination with London. First of all, he paints the misery of the slums, which he admitted are very attractive to him precisely because of their ugliness.
