Summary
Bartolomeo Ridolfi Sforza: Vita di Giacopo Foscarini, Caualiere, e Procuratore di San Marco
Very rare. Third edition.
A work on the life of Giacomo Foscarini written in Latin by Giovanni Antonio Ridolfi Sforza and translated by his son Bartolomeo Ridolfi Sforza. Giacomo Foscarini was one of the most respected figures (ambassador, procurator of St. Mark's) in the time of constant battles of the 16th century for the control of the Mediterranean Sea.
In addition to being a biography, the book also depicts the events of the time, which included the Republic of Venice and the Turks. The book describes Foscarini's travels to France, England, Dalmatia, Crete and Corfu. The book also provides fascinating information about the marble construction of the Rialto Bridge, the construction of which was led by Foscarini.
