Original paperback

Osman consists of 20 cantos (the 14th and 15th were supplemented by Ivan Mažuranić) sung in octave quatrains with the rhyme abab.

Total contains 10428 verses.

In the work, with certain departures from the theme, the events related to the life, reign and death of the Turkish sultan are sung. Osman II. Gundulić's handwriting was used by Nikola Ohmučević, who copied it, and his transcription is today the oldest known manuscript of Osman, because Gundulić's autograph has not been preserved.

The first edition of Osman was printed in Dubrovnik in 1826 with additions by Pijerko Sorkočević.
