Marlen Haushofer: The Wall
The unnamed heroine goes with her cousin and her husband to the alpine forests to spend a few days in their hunting lodge. After the first night, he realizes that the couple has not returned from the trip they went on the previous day. He goes in search of them and encounters an unknown, invisible obstacle. It seems that she is the only survivor of a mysterious disaster and that she is behind a transparent wall, cut off from civilization. That small, isolated space gives her the opportunity to build a world that functions independently. The novel was awarded the Austrian State Prize for Literature.
