Summary
Vedrana Rudan: Besplatna dostava
Can a woman work twenty hours and be a mother?
In the novel Free Delivery, an amended and supplemented edition of the novel Amaruši, Vedrana Rudan problematizes one of the most important topics of today: the position of the child in capitalism. Grandparents, overworked kindergartens, tennis and soccer schools, swimming, ballet and piano lessons are just some of the addresses where children are delivered for free like packages so that parents can work as much as possible.
Iva gets up at six, works two jobs, speaks several languages and barely makes ends meet. Her husband Igor, even after graduating from college, has to work as a waiter, glue tiles and supply brothels. The two hardly see their daughter Katarina, aka Amaruši, who regularly stays with Iva's mother Nina to look after her.
A successful and controversial writer, Nina does not have to worry about money, but she is constantly worried. After twenty-five years of great love, her husband left her for another woman, twenty years younger.
While Iva and Igor try to cope with difficult everyday life, and Nina mourns her husband, no one has time for Amaruši. Although invisible to others, Amaruši still sees everything very well.
