Dubrovačka tralalalogija - smiješna kronika I-III

Šehović Feđa

Summary

Feđa Šehović: Dubrovnik tralalalogija - funny chronicle I-III

I. Casino II. Perfect Murder III. Veljun

The Dubrovnik tralalalogija (funny chronicle) by the writer from Split and Dubrovnik, Feđa Šehović, is an extensive and extremely witty satirical trilogy that, through a parody of historical chronicles, exposes the reverse side of public and private life in old Dubrovnik. This trilogy, published in volumes since the mid-seventies, consists of three separate, yet thematically connected parts under the titles Kazin, Svaršeno umrodstvo and Veljun. In this work, Šehović consciously plays with local tradition, mentality and historical myths about the "harmony and freedom" of the Republic of Dubrovnik, twisting them into hilarious comic situations full of intrigue, gossip and human flaws. Through specific, archaic Dubrovnik speech (speech from the common streets, casinos and salons), the author creates a colorful gallery of characters - from local rulers, clerics and gentlemen to ordinary commoners, courtesans and swindlers. Instead of an idealized past, the reader is offered a sharp critique of social hypocrisy and human nature that remains unchanged regardless of the century in which the action takes place. Combining the elements of a picaresque novel, historical satire and folk comedy, this chronicle has been remembered as one of the most unique humorous works in modern Croatian literature. [1, 2, 3]
