Summary
Tin Kolumbić: Selected poems
A collection of selected poems by Tin Kolumbić from Hvar, winner of several "Drago Gervais" awards for poetry. He often published poetry collections in his own edition, so this publication of his selected poems is at the same time settling a kind of publishing debt to the poet, without whose work the contemporary Croatian lyrical scene would certainly be scarcer. Kolumbić's lyrics, esoteric and all interwoven with the mysticism of the light of the Mediterranean, are focused on the fundamental values of life and human knowledge in the relationship between birth and death. The hometown of Hvar (born in Sv. Nedjelja) with its traditional spiritual and cultural values is the poet's inexhaustible source, that permanent landmark around which his inner being is crystallized and balanced. That is why in these verses, in addition to eternal metaphysical questions, there are also many evocations of childhood, archaic scenes of stone, land and sea, as well as dear people, places and memories. The cycle of songs "Zemlja Hrvatska" expresses authentic patriotism (with the distinctive songs "Vukovar 1991" and "Dubrovnik1991"), and the cycle "Jesus and my mother" was sung in the sonorous Chakavian dialect of Hvar.
