Ida Furst: Kraljević Radovan

FÜRST, Ida, married Steinschneider, writer (Kolín, 1875 — ?, 1936). She moved to Croatia around 1880. She was probably educated in Zagreb, because at the age of 14 she wrote a literary contribution to the Zagreb youth magazine Smilje (1889/90). After her marriage to professor Herman Steinschneider, she lived in Prague and Berlin, where she translated and promoted Croatian literature. From 1913, she worked in the Journalism Department in Berlin. She published poems, cartoons, travelogues (Berlin, Paris, Karlovy Vary, Sarajevo) as well as reviews and depictions of cultural, especially theatrical and artistic life in the Czech Republic and Germany from 1892 to 1936. in newspapers and magazines: Smilje, Pobratim, Vienac, Na domechom ognište, Strossmayer Kalendar, Agramer Tagblatt, Agramer Zeitung, Die Drau, Jugoslavenska žena, Der Morgen, Obzor. In Narodne novine, 1901-07 were published. her culturally meaningful Letters from Prague. In 1897 and 1902, her drama with patriotic and pseudo-historical motifs Kraljević Radovan. was shown in the Zagreb National Theater. Critics criticized her for the weak characterization of the characters and the too long exposition. Year In 1912, her fairy Christmas story with music At the Gate of Paradise, based on the motifs of H.C. Andersen was shown in the same theater. She translated Vojnović's drama Equinox (Berlin 1918) and short stories by K. Š. Gjalski (Leipzig 1922).
