Summary
Gustav Krklec: Lyrics
First edition of Gustav Krklec's first poetry collection. Cover by Ljubo Babić. The collection belongs to avant-garde currents in the poetry of that time. Gustav Krklec (Udbinja near Karlovac, 1899 - Zagreb, 1977) Poet, storyteller, columnist and translator. He also wrote under the pseudonym Martin Lipnjak
However, 1919 is certainly the most significant year in the poet's life because his first collection of poems was published under the name "Lyrics" (translated as "Vörös i drugovi", Zagreb). In that collection, for which the title page was edited by Ljubo Babić, and the foreword was written by Ulderiko Donadini, 54 pages contain poems from literary magazines as well as "verses from the students' desks, the sixth and seventh grade of high school". The publisher did not have much faith in the young poet because Gustav received several of his own books as a fee. However, despite the publisher's skepticism, the book was sold out in a few weeks and the edition was repeated the same year.
