Summary
Matija Bećković: Mother Zorka
For the first time, the greatest living Serbian poet writes a prose work. And an autobiography at that!
Through her mother's diary, which begins this book, and which this brave woman wrote during her imprisonment as the wife of a Chetnik duke, Matija Bećković gave us an unusual testimony of a time. Mother Zorka left the Diary to her son Matija and a "Sad Novel" in which she described her life with her three children, orphans, who did not stop waiting for their father who has no grave. This dramatic confession is also a part of this unusual work in its original form.
And finally, Matija Bećković, building on her mother's stories, writes for the first time about her life, growing up and schooling, suffering for her father and her mother's hard struggle for the lives of her children.
Photographs and poems are published for the first time in the book.
