Summary
Haris Imamović: Vedran and the Firemen
The main characters of the novel "Vedran and the Firemen" are the famous Sarajevo cellist Vedran Smailović and three firefighters - two commanders of the Sarajevo Brigade - Mesud Jusufović and Kenan Slinić, and John Jordan, an American volunteer who joined the Sarajevo firefighters in early 1993.
At first trapped in a ring of siege, the heroes will travel the world, from the Latin Quarter to the Oval Office, by a game of fate. From numerous testimonies and documents, guided by literary criteria (and not, for example, scientific or journalistic), the important is separated from the unimportant and a dynamic whole is composed.
Events generally do not follow one another according to plot logic. Heroes do not produce reality, but find themselves in it. Although it depicts unforgettable characters, the book talks about a reality in which fate is most often determined not by character, but by a sniper's shot or a grenade.
