Summary
Francisco X. Stork: Marcelo in the real world
Seventeen-year-old Marcelo Sandoval often talks about himself in the third person, hears music that no one else hears and has difficulty expressing his thoughts, which doctors interpret as a developmental difficulty most similar to autism. Although he was labeled "developmental disorder", Marcelo is happy to attend a school where he is protected because of his specialness, he likes to think about philosophy and religion in the treehouse, and he is most happy that he will be able to help in the therapeutic riding program the summer before his final year.
But then his father asks him to spend the summer working in his law office instead, because that way he will best experience the real world. Wanting to please his father, Marcelo accepts the job and meets interesting friends: the beautiful and unusual co-worker Jasmine and Wendell, the son of the co-owner of the office. As the summer progresses, he will face a whole range of new feelings and dilemmas, and a picture of a girl with half a face he finds in a file is what will connect him to the real world. The doubts and injustices that often reign there will make him ask himself: what can I do to oppose it?
