Summary
Lewis Carroll: The Hunt for the Snark
"The Hunt for the Snark", a playful poem by Lewis Carroll, is a masterpiece of nonsense poetry, which definitely placed the famous writer, the creator of the fantastic journeys of Alice, at the very top of this genre (which, by the way, he is the progenitor of, along with his compatriot Edward Lear), which he resisted for more than a century. Puns, masterful word-juggling and volleys of completely insane and intelligent humor are quite expected features of this work by Carroll. But with "Snark", this wonderful author goes even further, building his cheerful story from countless layers of satirical metaphors, with which he questions the English mentality and moral values on which relationships in Victorian English society rest.
