Bukowski Charles

Summary

Charles Bukowski: Thoughts of a Pervert

What can be said about Charles Bukowski that the average reader of his works does not already know? What is even less known and interesting to add that a passionate fan of Bukowski's diverse and numerous works has not already read or found out in some other way? In the music industry, a publisher would offer forgotten recordings or an interesting compilation of a musical star, and this selection of Thoughts of a Literary Star offers some of the more famous and interesting statements, quotes, messages and thoughts from his varied works (novels, short stories, essays, letters, newspaper articles, diary entries, interviews, etc.).
Of course, Bukowski loved to write. Therefore, some of his thoughts are not concise and succinct, expressed in just one or two sentences. Sometimes a single thought of his takes up an entire page and rather represents the form of his philosophy of life and his beliefs and worldview than just a condensed thought. But this is precisely the typical Bukowski, who regularly tells us: "Well, that's my style." Also, we must not forget that all of Bukowski's works (regardless of whether they are prose or poetry) bear a recognizable stamp of autobiography. According to Bukowski's own admission, of everything he ever wrote, more than ninety-five percent represented real events and autobiographical details, and barely five percent was fiction (which he used exclusively in novels and short stories).
This selection inevitably included thoughts on some of the basic themes to which Bukowski returned repeatedly throughout his life: thoughts on women and sex, on drink, on solitude, on gambling, on cats, on philosophers and writers, on writing, about fame, about life, about aging, about death, etc.
Bukowski published his first story as a 24-year-old young man, and began writing poetry at thirty-five, to publish his first collection of poems only at the age of forty. Considering the fact that he did not live to a ripe old age (he died at the age of 73), it is rather surprising that in thirty years of active writing he published more than 50 extensive books of prose and poetry, and twenty more of his books were published posthumously. more than 20 extensive books which, in fact, represent literary studies in which their authors deal with the impact of Bukowski's life and works on society and contemporary literature), the undeniable fact that Bukowski is undoubtedly one of the most isolated and isolated figures in contemporary world literature and art in general sounds even more interesting. Because Bukowski never belonged to any literary group that would facilitate his access to greater literary attention and a wider circle of readers through the commonality of ideas and goals. Reading poetry, stories, novels, letters, and now also Bukowski's Thoughts, we cannot escape the impression that he is one of those, today so rare, writers who convey their personal experience and vision of the world with a special sense of intimate communication with their readers. And that is one of the most important reasons for its great success with readers. Because, despite the multi-layered and ambiguous nature of many of his thoughts, they are always expressed in ordinary, everyday language that is understandable even to a casual reader of Bukowski.
