Summary
Dan Rhodes: Timoleone Vieta, come home: a sentimental journey
Aged composer Carthusians Cockroft, lonely and heartbroken, moved to Umbria where he lives on his savings, thinks about love and occasionally settles for short adventures. All in the desire to forget the man in the silver pants who broke his heart. The only constant factor in his life is the dog Timoleon Vieta, a mixed breed, a loyal creature, with beautiful eyes like those of a child. But when a new guy, a Bosnian, appears in his life, that too will change. The Bosnian is young, aggressive, hates dogs and gives Cockroft an ultimatum: either him or the dog. Cockroft is in agony, but the fear of being alone again prevails and he decides to take the dog to Rome and leave him there. Abandoned in an unknown city, Timoleon Vieta will try to find his way home, and . on that journey he will meet many more broken hearts and lost people. An intriguing and unusual novel by one of the best young British writers, Dan Rhodes, is a metaphorical story about the primal battle between good and evil, between loyalty and incidental pleasure, which captures the reader's attention with the power of simple expression and shocking images from life. Rhodes does not hesitate to show things as they really are, life is cruel and unpredictable, with difficult choices and the consequences they bring. The story of returning home, of rediscovering life's values, Timoleone Vieta, come back home, is a very special work translated into Croatian by Gordana Popović.
