These two novels-records, which Dostoevsky left to mankind in a bequest, for safekeeping, are in the form of a pure confession. Both originate from the middle period of his life, before writing the so-called great novels such as Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, Madness, Mladić and The Brothers Karamazov. Their interestingness is contained in the fact that the main characters, Aleksandar Petrovič Gorjanchenko from Mrtvoi Dom and the unnamed author from Underworld, while confessing, uncompromisingly indulge in solitude; they are lonely to the point of insanity, running away from people as far as possible... Therefore, we can wonder if these two romanticized characters did not arise from the writer's own deep feelings that shook his soul during his life, and which perhaps, in the end, completely shaped him both as a writer and as a person?
