Summary

Julius Evola: The Organic State – writings on state-building ideas

Plato's conception of the state is often superficially understood as a utopian vision, interesting only as a curiosity for students of the history of philosophy. However, such a view is not only limited, but also misses the essence of Plato's ideas, which are manifested in two key aspects. First, this conception is not a mere abstraction, but deeply reflects the spirit of the Doric tribes - the founders of Sparta - with clear links to the legislation of Lycurgus. These tribes, related to other Indo-European peoples (including those from the period of the early Roman Republic), founded the social and political structures that Plato in his work *Timaeus* recognizes as real examples of his ideals, and not only in the West. Second, and far more important, Plato's state has a normative character. It is not just a projection of an ideal order, but an "eternal" archetype, an idea that transcends each individual state and serves as a yardstick for evaluating the legality and justice of all existing political systems. Plato emphasizes that the individual, despite the imperfections of actual political forms, must unwaveringly follow that ideal and guard it as a standard of justice, not allowing the corruption of reality to divert him from that path. It is precisely this point of view that makes Plato's vision far deeper than a mere "utopia".
