Summary
H.P. Blavacka: The Study of the Occult
Occultism is not magic. It is relatively easy to learn magician's tricks and methods of using the more subtle but still material forces of a physical nature; the powers of the animal soul in man are quickly awakened; the forces that can move his love, hate or passion are easily developed. But that is black magic - witchcraft. For motive, and motive alone, is what makes every manifestation of power black, malevolent, or white, beneficent magic. It is impossible to use spiritual forces if there is even the slightest trace of selfishness in the person wielding them. Because if the intention is not completely pure, the spiritual will transform into the psychic, acting on the astral level, and this can produce terrible consequences. The powers and forces of animal nature can be used equally by selfish and vindictive people, as well as by those who are selfless and ready for complete forgiveness; the powers and forces of the spirit are available only to a perfectly pure heart - and that is DIVINE MAGIC. What are the necessary conditions for a person to become a disciple of "divine wisdom"? Because it should be known that such instruction cannot be provided if certain conditions are not met, which must be strictly adhered to during the years of study. It is a *sine qua non* – an unavoidable condition. No man can swim unless he enters deep water. No bird can fly if its wings have not grown and if there is no space in front of it and no courage to surrender to the air. A man who wishes to wield a double-edged sword must be a complete master of blunt weapons so as not to injure himself—or, worse, others—on the first attempt. In order to give an approximate idea of the conditions under which the study of divine wisdom can be safely conducted - that is, without the danger of turning into black magic - I enclose a page from the "private rules" available to every teacher in the East. The few passages that follow are selected from among many and explained in parentheses.
