What, then, is the difference between the royal dynasties whose members were buried in Ur in Chaldea and those buried in Aladza Hijik in Anatolia, around 2500 BC? Do the former belong to the "historic" and the latter to the "prehistoric" period? There is no point in making such distinctions. Scientists are constantly trying to explore the past as far back as possible, to go back to the very beginnings. This is why the historian cannot ignore the first civilizations inhabited by a sedentary population. It is here that key events take place, hierarchical societies are created, the first cities are founded, geo-cultural areas are defined and religious traditions are created. Populations turn into nations.
