Summary
Bojan Mitrović: The emergence of the modern historical discipline in Serbia and Bulgaria
Assumptions, theses, polemics (1878 - 1918)
The book describes the development of scientific historiography in Serbia and Bulgaria in the last quarter of the 19th century. At the center of the author's interest are the works of Ilarion Ruvarac, Stojan Novaković, Marin Drinov, Vasil Zlatarski and other historians of that era, within the context of the development of not only historiography, but also auxiliary sciences, primarily philology and paleography, as well as within the consideration of the professionalization of the historian's calling. In this way, the author reaches several conclusions that change the current view of the development of historiography in the Balkans.
