Rudolf Horvat: History of Trade, Crafts and Industry in Croatia
After almost 70 years, this manuscript of the historian Rudolf Horvat was found, which he had written for a competition and which was published by the Chamber of Commerce and Trade in Zagreb in 1926. The publication of this extensive manuscript, complemented by an extensive study by Dr. Mira Kolar Dimitrijević and with about ninety pictorial contributions, is a first-class publishing venture. He will show how throughout history businessmen have worked for the benefit of their family, their class, but also the homeland of Croatia. Crovat's pioneering courage must be acknowledged, and the manuscript shows that in the past thousand years the balance of trade, crafts and industry in Croatia was very active, and that Croatia entered the system of the Yugoslav state with considerable capital and tradition. Written in 1926, Horvat's manuscript is a kind of cry for help, expressed in the specific way of a historian, absolutely relevant even after three quarters of a century later.
