Srđan Šarkić: Legal and political ideas in the Eastern Roman Empire
Prof. dr Srđan Šarkić, our leading expert on Byzantine and Serbian medieval law, presented the most interesting thoughts from legal and political theory, which emerged in the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantium) in the period from the beginning of Constantine's reign (306 AD) to the end of Justinian's (565 AD). church authorities. Although independent and systematic legal and political understandings are rare in this historical period, Šarkić showed how early Byzantine authors use and interpret their ancient models, adapting them to socio-economic circumstances and new relationships that arose in the Roman Empire at the beginning of the IV century, with the introduction of the Dominate and the Christianization of the world empire.
