Summary
Erich Fromm: The Art of Love
This book will disappoint anyone who expects ready-made instructions on the art of love. On the contrary, she wants to show that love is not a feeling that anyone can easily surrender to, regardless of the level of maturity they have reached. She wants to convince the reader that all his efforts about love will surely fail if he does not most actively try to develop his whole personality in order to achieve a productive orientation; that satisfaction in individual love cannot be achieved without the ability to love one's neighbor, without true humility, courage, belief and discipline. Few will acquire the ability to love in a culture where these qualities are rare. Or — everyone can ask themselves how many truly in love people they know. Nevertheless, the difficulty of the task must not deter us from trying to find out the difficulties and conditions for its realization.
