It would be futile to look for the noun praesthetics in dictionaries. And that would be redundant. As an initial part in the construction of many compounds, the expression pra - is well established. (If you didn't know about your great-grandmother and great-grandfather from a young age, you had to hear about prehistory, ancestral homeland, rainforest...) at school. Following the same pattern, the words proto-fairy tale and proto-poetics were created here, as key to two sections of the book.
