That sexual needs and passions can sometimes be connected with murderous impulses has long been known, of course. However, it was not until Freud's work that we learned that the corresponding elements usually operate in the consciousness of a young child before they are extinguished with the transition to boyhood. And secondly, that the conflicts that arise at that time, although repressed into the subconscious, can strongly influence life in adulthood. Forty years ago, I had to bring this subject into my experiment somewhat cautiously, because then the knowledge about it was limited to a small group of people, and even then it encountered great abuses. Today, in a more enlightened time, I can count on his influence to be much less astonishing.
