In his work "History of German Culture", Slobodan Grubacic simultaneously talks about two German traditions - the infinitely positive one, which produced the world's highest achievements in art, and the other, tragically negative, when the rise to power of one man marked the demise of the entire nation.
One great culture, which is both long-lived and significant and influential, is always in its own way creation and one's destiny, in fact, a complex and secret drama in which multiple desires and needs intersect, an unpredictable play of events, and man's dream of duration. Such a culture not only changes the appearance and significance of the space in which it is located, but has deep biological ties with the people in which it was created; it affects the development of generations, similarly to air, soil, climate and food. Because everything that has a deeper meaning in life, everything that plays a certain role in it, and is more permanent and stronger than it, weaves itself, over time, into culture and leaves its mark and color in it, more or less visible or strong, but personal and timeless. The nation, through the deeds and exploits of its individuals, creates culture as an image of its deepest, often unconscious aspirations and traits, and this image slowly over the centuries imperceptibly influences the character and habits of the people.
