Summary

Croatian Literary Heritage

Book 1.

The first book in the book series The Croatian Library Heritage brings the basic material for the lesser-known and neglected corpus of the history of Croatian literature, and the texts of Latin humanism stand out, for example the unknown texts of the authors of the first Croatian prose and poetic incunabula, Nikola Modruško (rhetorical manual De consolatione) and Jurj Šižgorić (Prosopoeya, an unknown version of the elegy about the death of two brothers) and texts from the 18th century. For the first time, the Croatian public can also get to know the Glagolitic-humanistic Tale of the Wise Akira, based on a recitation from Derečkaev's anthology, as well as a series of texts by poets unknown to the public (Andrija Pauli, Josip Knezović, Petar Bašić), as well as attempts to copy the ending of Držić's masterpiece Dundo Maroja. In discussions about Croatian literature, the longest epic of Croatian Latinism by Jišajid Kajetan Vičić, Kunić and Zamanja's translation of Theocritus' Idylls, and Šulek's transcription of Jakov Pletikosa's Travels are problematized. The bibliography of older Croatian literature refers to primary materials and books, texts in anthologies, scientific and professional works in magazines and reviews published in the year 2000.
