Summary
Alexandra Tolstoy: Father I-II
The Life of Leo Tolstoy
I know that my book has many flaws... I was very young when my father died: I was twenty-six years old, the conscious period of my life with my father was very short. That's why I had to use not only personal memories but also printed sources: books about Tolstoy, his biographies, published diaries and letters. While my father's manuscripts, mainly his unpublished diaries and letters, which are located in Moscow, of course, were unavailable to me. In addition, I was busy with issues of providing assistance to refugees. I could only write on Saturdays and Sundays, and it was difficult to go from a real harsh reality to long-gone happy years.
I'm glad that, good or bad, I completed my task. I felt a duty to write everything I know about my father and how I understand him because I owe everything that is good in me to him only, even regarding the creation of an organization that bears his name, the Tolstoy Fund. I wanted to share with you, the readers, my love for this unusual, dear, sensitive, cheerful and attractive, simple and great man. To bring it closer to you...
