Summary

Slobodan Prosperov Novak: Practicing the Renaissance

Literature Lectures at Yale University

Slobodan Prosperov Novak's book "Practising the Renaissance" was originally written in English in the academic year 2005/2006. It was prepared as part of the working material for students of the Slavistic seminar at Yale University in New Haven. Each chapter was originally accompanied by a single sheet of selected texts that were discussed at the seminars, as well as relatively rich illustrative material.

This edition was prepared for Croatian readers, so there is no accompanying material, but the book consists of the author's texts that the professor spoke in his seminar.

Although the book is a kind of reconstruction of the teaching work in an American university seminar, it is also a unique narrative about Croatian culture and its protagonists during the 15th century. and the 16th century. Dealing with sometimes peripheral topics, the author illuminates with their help the very center of the literary renaissance on Croatian soil, trying to see its relevance today.

"Vežbanje renaissance" is an exciting excursion into the ancient but still very much alive European past.

On the cover of the book, a part of the city perspective from the painting Ideal City by Lucijan Laurana Vranjanin (Zadar, around 1420-1479), one of of the most important architects of the XV. century. The tablet is located in the Prince's Palace in Urbino, and is dated to the second half of the 15th century. century.
