Summary
Ivan Pederin: "Začinjavci", štioc and pregaoci
Own strengths and German motivations in Croatian literature.
Unusual life paths - for one who in our country devotes himself to literary history under the auspices of Almae matris - different professions and environments, and very early literary motivations - creative and mediating - and a long period of seeming abandonment made Ivan Pederin (1934) enter into the circle of connoisseurs of Croatian literature suddenly and authoritatively at the same time, with a whole host of studies that delved into poorly researched areas of literary-philological and cultural-political tradition or offered new readings of heritage based on large interpretive models (such as Curtius's). These re-readings of antiquity - attempts to free the original work from added, added meanings, i.e. clichés of the critical tradition - always followed the path of pursuing universal motivations, that is, universal determinants of Croatian literature.
